Uga Carlini is an award-winning director and screenwriter known for emotionally charged, female-driven stories that blend bold cinematic vision with profound humanity.
Founder of Towerkop Creations, she has directed and produced features for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showmax, and theatrical release, including the internationally acclaimed ‘Alison’, the Netflix hit ‘Angeliena’, and the multi-award-winning hybrid documentary ‘Beyond the Light Barrier’. Alongside her feature work, she has directed hit music videos for Sony Music Africa — including the viral 17 Shots (7.9M+ views) — and brings extensive experience across formats: reality, short-form branded content, commercial campaigns, music video, documentary, and hybrid storytelling. Her body of work is distinguished by emotional precision, a courageous female lens, mythic grounding, and the ability to transform real human stories into cinematic experiences that resonate worldwide.
As a director, Carlini thrives at the intersection of truth and imagination — crafting intimate performances, visually rich worlds, and character-driven narratives that explore resilience, identity, and transformation. With over three decades of cross-disciplinary experience, she brings a uniquely global, deeply personal, and fiercely authentic voice to the DGC.
She is also a 2026 Paramount+ Sparks participant, a 2025 GEMS TV Producers Program participant, a 2025 Chicken & Egg Award Nominee, and 2023 Academy Gold Fellowship for Women Nominee. She is also a WGSA, CMPA and PGA member.
Carlini has built a global filmmaking footprint across South Africa, the UK, Australia, Fiji, and now Canada.
