Nisha Platzer

British Columbia

An award-winning queer director, Nisha Platzer lives on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. Her films meld sounds and imagery that you can dream and drown in. They explore themes of disability, queerness, youth, grief and healing. She studied at the renowned Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba and her work has been supported by Telefilm, Canada Council for the Arts, the BC Arts Council and the National Film Board of Canada. Nisha’s first feature, 'back home', was presented at the Docs-in-Progress Canadian Showcase at Cannes Film Festival and won Best Artistic Documentary at the 40th Bogotá International Film Festival. Nisha’s short film, Vaivén (2020) won ‘best film’ at aluCine Latin Film Festival and competed worldwide at festivals including Raindance, Festival Nouveau Cinéma, FIDBA, and Ji.hlava. She is a current member of the analog film group, Iris Film Collective, and often works with handmade darkroom processes. Nisha is currently adapting a beloved Canadian novel for the screen.
