Nika Belianina
Ontario
Nika Belianina has been in the film industry for 20 years. She is a Writer/Director of fiction and documentary films. Her latest credits include several episodes of the popular U.S. true-crime show Fear Thy Neighbor (Discovery/CTV), a Volume Wall period comedy Paradox (CBC Gem), and the crime comedy The Robbery (Cinefest Best Canadian Short Film Award). She loves to sprinkle magical realism into her work whenever possible (Butterflies of Trip City, The Last Mermaids).
Her documentary work includes the Peruvian-made short The River of the Kukamas (Tribeca, Sheffield, and 40+ other festivals) and Eccentric Eclectic – a feature documentary on experimental music and sound art. Having an M.A. in psychology helps her navigate a myriad of personalities and communicate effectively. Nika has an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of filmmaking, having worked in lighting, camera, and props departments, where she spied on enriching her directing skills.
As a fine art photographer, Belianina continues to refine her artistic vision through magical realism and mysterious imagery. She is a WIDC alumna, as well as a recipient of WIFT, Banff, and Yorkton Filmmakers’ mentorships. Nika is currently pursuing a career in scripted TV while developing a documentary with support from the Bell Fund.
