My documentaries are all about negotiating intimate access to difficult stories. Most of my work as a director happens long before the camera rolls. I like to explore what motivates documentary participants to determine how to film their stories truthfully and organically.
My curiosity has brought me far and wide – embedded me and my camera in the diverse worlds of prisoners, priests, poker players, and, most recently, a pedophile hunter. These are emotional, character-driven narratives that reveal the triumphs and tragedies of the human condition.
I’ve been doing this for 25 years, but I still learn something new every single day on the job.
I’ve made films for Arte/ZDF, BBC, CBC, CRAVE, VICE, TVO, Documentary Channel, Bravo, History Channel, Discovery, and the National Film Board of Canada.
