Elizabeta Lazebnik is an award-winning, Toronto-based nonbinary, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ filmmaker. An immigrant to Canada, they have been making films for over 20 years and their work has screened internationally, including three times at TIFF. Their dramatic feature Be Still, about pioneering Canadian photographer Hannah Maynard, premiered at VIFF in 2021 and was acquired by Game Theory Films for distribution. It won Best Canadian Feature at the Female Eye Film Festival and won three Leo Awards. They are currently in post-production on their next feature, Language, which features ten actors performing scenes from King Lear in ten different languages. As a director, they are drawn to stories centring female and nonbinary perspectives, and to exploring the diverse ways people perceive and experience the world.
