Troy Scott
British Columbia
Troy's 2024 slate started with an exciting collaboration with two-time Grammy Award Winner LeToya Luckett: the star of “I Thought My Husband's Wife Was Dead.” LeToya shared in an interview on The Breakfast Club, “I think your mind is going to be blown by the end of the movie… The reason why I decided to play this character is because I felt her story deserved to be told and there are people…maybe suffering in silence or feel like they’re being treated unfairly in a marriage or any kind of relationship, and they don’t have the guts to speak up about it.” Based on the novel “Unmissing” by bestselling author Minka Kent with a screenplay by writer/ executive producer Tamara T. Gregory, this upbeat action thriller also showcases performances by Angela "Blac Chyna" White, Sherilyn Allen, and Jamall Johnson.
Troy’s collaboration with LeToya Luckett is a continuation of his track record partnering with exceptional strong Black actresses and actresses of color, including Meagan Good in the powerful film “Buying Back My Daughter” for which star Meagan Good was honored with a NAACP Image Awards nomination for Outstanding Actress, and co-star Faith Wright won the Leo Award for Best Supporting Performance. “Buying Back My Daughter,” with additional performances by Roger Cross and Ariana Madix, was inspired by actual events of mothers trying to rescue their daughters from being trafficked, part of Lifetime's Ripped from the Headlines and Stop Violence Against Women campaigns.
That same year (2023) Troy partnered with leading lady Grammy Award Winner Stephanie D. Mills in “Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story” (2.2 million viewers its premiere week), following up his previous successful collaborations with Grammy Award Winner Ledisi (“All Saints Christmas”) and Grammy Award Winner Michelle Williams (“Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story,” also with Tina Knowles-Lawson and Romeo Miller). “Wrath” was one of three installments by Troy in the Deadly Sins Lifetime Original series, also including “Greed” starring LisaRaye McCoy and Monique Coleman along with Eric Benet.
Troy’s approach to directing is collaborative and authentic and empowers artists to give their best, including stars Luke Macfarlane and Ashley Williams along with Marcus Rosner and Peter Porte in “Notes of Autumn” (US Weekly’s Best Hallmark Movies of 2023) and star/ executive producer Kim Fields along with Adrian Holmes in MTV's “Adventures in Christmasing” for which Troy received a DGC Outstanding Directorial Achievement Nomination.
Born in Jamaica, Troy grew up in Toronto and, after completing his film degree at University of Waterloo, then headed to Vancouver Film School and joined the Directors Guild shortly after, working as an AD for over a decade before breaking through as Director. He has established a strong body of work in thriller, drama, romance, and adventure genres, for Paramount+, Lifetime, Hallmark, Sony Pictures Television, and MTV Entertainment Studios. Troy values opportunities to work with talented executive producers and creatives, such as Derrick Williams, Orly Adelson, Tamara T. Gregory, Bart Fisher, Terry Washington, Ray Chew, Shaun Robinson, Timothy O. Johnson, Maura Dunbar, Debbie Gibson, and Victoria Christopher Murray.
