PAT MILLS’s first feature film, the dark comedy GUIDANCE, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Picked up in the USA and Canada, Guidance played on Netflix USA and was called a “Grade A” comedy by the Los Angeles Times and was a New York Times Critics' Pick.
Pat was named winner of TIFF’s Pitch This for DON’T TALK TO IRENE. Released in 2018 starring newcomer Michelle McLeod, Scott Thompson and Oscar-winner Geena Davis, Don’t Talk to Irene had its world premiere at TIFF and went on to win several awards at film festivals, as well as two Canadian Comedy Awards: Best Writing in a Feature and Best Feature. It is currently available on Peacock and Paramount+.
Pat directed Lifetime's first LGBTQ+ Christmas movie, THE CHRISTMAS SETUP (starring Ben Lewis, Blake Lee and Fran Drescher), which was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Movie, a DGC Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and a Canadian Screen Award for Best TV Movie. Pat was also nominated for a WGC Award for the script for QUEENS episode 4.
Directing credits include STRAYS (CBC), DESIGNING CHRISTMAS (Discovery+), RUN THE BURBS (CBC), a HERITAGE MINUTE about trans pioneer/musician Jackie Shane (co-directed with Ayo Tsalithaba), and the queer thriller, THE RETREAT, currently on-demand, airing on Showtime/Hulu in the USA.
