Li Dong

Li Dong is an award-winning writer and director currently living and working in Toronto, Ontario. Li graduated from Dalhousie University in 2006 with honours in English and history and then went on to graduate from Dalhousie Law School. After law school Li played poker professionally before he was hand-selected by Oscar-nominated director Werner Herzog to attend his private “Rogue Film School”. He has since gone on to write and direct numerous shorts, documentaries and music videos. His first feature film STEALING SCHOOL premiered at the Napa Valley Film Festival in 2019 and was released in Canada by Game Theory in June of 2020. It was then released in the United States by Vertical Entertainment in February of 2021 and is currently streaming on CBC GEM. The film garnered great press including coverage in Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, The Daily Beast, iHeartRadio, ETalk, The Social, ET Canada and CBC's The National with the majority of the articles focusing on the movie’s sharp take on race, millennial culture, higher education, gender dynamics and other social issues. Much of this praise for the movie was also tied to Li’s unique voice as a bold new Asian filmmaker. Recently, Li has directed the thriller feature film FATAL FAMILY REUNION for Lifetime, produced by Neshama Entertainment and released in late 2022.
