Leila Khalilzadeh

Leila Khalilzadeh is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker based in Montreal. She has written, directed, and produced short fiction, animation, and documentary films showcased at different festivals, including Berlin International Film Festival and Festival du nouveau cinéma. The versatility of working in different genres allows Leila to be innovative and gives her the ability to, for example, incorporate animation aesthetics into the real world. Her fictional works are often influenced by her background in documentary filmmaking.
Leila holds an MFA in Film Production from Concordia University, Montreal, and an MA in Cinema from the University of Art, Tehran. She is an alumna of Berlinale Talents (2021), RIFF Talent Lab (2024), and the Reelworld Screen Institute Producer Program (2024). She is also a member of the Directors Guild of Canada.
Leila currently has both fiction and documentary projects in different stages of development and is working on her first feature film, supported by Telefilm Canada's development fund.
