Jim Morrison IV is an international highly decorated, award-winning director born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and based in Los Angeles. He works across film and television with a focus on character-driven narrative.
He began his career behind the camera at 13 while living in Southeast Asia, documenting the world around him. That early experience shaped a visual instinct grounded in observation and authenticity. Raised without television and influenced by a father deeply involved in preserving the Oral History traditions of West Africa, Jim developed a foundation in storytelling rooted in voice, perspective, and emotional truth.
By 23, he had become one of the most sought-after music video directors in Canada and a founding partner of Maverick Films in Toronto. His early work was defined by a cinematic, performance-driven approach that bridged visual style with narrative intent.
He went on to direct and produce commercials, documentaries, and over 200 episodes of television across more than 50 countries. This body of work established a track record of delivering at scale, collaborating across cultures, and consistently building story under pressure.
Jim is now focused on scripted film and television. He recently wrapped BIG LAW, a six-part narrative series, and has directed multiple films that have screened at international festivals. He currently has several feature projects in active development, including BONECRUSHER, based on the life of pugilist SAM LANGFORD and his award winning short byt the same name. Jim's work is centered on character-driven stories that explore power, identity, and moral complexity.
His background in doc/unscripted storytelling continues to inform his narrative work, particularly in performance and tone. He prioritizes grounded, lived-in characters and builds visual language that supports story rather than distracts from it.
At his core, Jim’s work is driven by a commitment to authenticity and a belief that the most compelling stories come from character. He brings a disciplined, collaborative approach to directing, with a focus on projects that demand both scale and emotional precision.
