Giulia Frati

Born in Italy, Giulia Frati is currently based in Tiohtià:ke /Montreal. She has been working in the audiovisual industry for over 20 years.

As a director, she has created social documentaries and experimental shorts. Her first documentary "Pupa's Garden" was screened at several international festivals and broadcast on France 3 Corse. Her second documentary “Istanbul Echoes” won the Iris Award for Best Documentary Sound in 2020, after festival screenings and a successful theatrical release in Montreal. It is currently available online on Apply TV, Prime and other niche platforms. Giulia has also worked as director on documentary series for TV, multi camera livestreams and created meaningful corporate and educational content.

Giulia is an avid collaborator which has allowed her to wear multiple hats including roles as producer, production manager, DOP, camera operator, researcher, assistant director and sometimes even editor on a wide selection of major projects (fiction, documentary, animated series, web series, livestreams). These rich experiences as well as her unique international perspective allow her to see the big picture and build bridges between cultures and creative positions.

Giulia is also co-founder of the Pitch Cuban Hat and currently President of the Board of Makila, a non-profit cooperative that supports the incubation of media projects. Since 2009, these two initiatives have enabled her to help support audiovisual creators from underrepresented communities.

Since 2018, Giulia has worked regularly in the field of classical music concert multi-cam streaming, as a camera operator and more recently as a director. This experience has enabled her to discover the classical music milieu and deepen her appreciation for music.

Giulia is now developing her first fiction projects.
