Gail Maurice is an Indigenous, Métis, filmmaker and founder of Assini Productions, a company dedicated to uplifting Indigenous voices. She is proudly fluent in her language, Northern Michif, a language with less than a thousand speakers.
Her feature debut, ROSIE, was a TIFF Top Ten Canadian film in 2022 and went on to win many awards worldwide, including Best Director, Best Screenwriter. Her sophomore film, BLOOD LINES, screened at TIFF to rave reviews and is just beginning it's festival circuit. Gail's films have screened at Sundance, TIFF, the Smithsonian, ImagineNATIVE, Maoriland, Skabmagovat and many others.
She was short-listed for the prestigious Jean-Marc Vallée award, presented by the DGC. She’s a recipient of the Hnatyshyn Indigenous award of excellence and a Chalmers Fellowship. She was named one of Variety’s Top Ten Canadians to watch.
