Daniel is a graduate of the film program at Concordia University (Montreal). He then attended the film program at USC. In 2004, he releases his first feature as writer/producer/director, “WHITE SKIN” (La Peau Blanche). Distributed by Lion’s Gate in the USA and Seville in Canada, the film screens at the Toronto International Film festival where it wins Best first feature. TIFF then selects the movie in the TOP 10 best Canadian films, along with the New York MOMA. In 2005, Daniel Roby sees his work recognized again as he wins the prestigious Canadian Screen Award for best director for a first feature. His second film, “FUNKYTOWN” starring Justin Chatwin, is number 1 at the Canadian box-office two weeks in a row and gathers four stars reviews and the second place at the total Canadian box-office of 2011. Daniel then directs the biopic “LOUIS CYR: The strongest man on earth”. Released on 100 screens in the summer of 2013, the film not only receives accolades from the critics, but it gathers the biggest Quebec box office of the year. It then goes on to win 9 Quebec Cinema Awards including Best Picture. In 2014, Daniel is invited in France to direct the last three episodes of the prestigious CANAL + TV series “VERSAILLES” season 1, a 45M USD international TV series starring George Blagden that aired on Canal +, the BBC and was sold in 100 countries. That success brings in another French project to direct, the TF1 Studio 12M Euros budget sci-fi movie “JUST A BREATH AWAY” starring Romain Duris and Olga Kurylenko. The film opens the Fantasia film festival in 2018 and wins the festival’s Best Feature award, before it’s sold all over the world. Daniel releases in 2020 his fifth feature “TARGET NUMBER ONE”. He co-produced, wrote and directed it. He was nominated best director at the DGC awards for it, and got 11 nominations including best picture, best director and best screenplay at the 2021 Quebec cinema awards. Based on real events reported by famous reporter Victor Malarek in 1989, the movie is starring Josh Hartnett, Jim Gaffigan, Amanda Crew and Antoine Olivier Pilon, and is distributed by Universal pictures worldwide.
