In December 2024, award-winning Canadian filmmaker DALE HESLIP experienced one of the greatest moments of his career when his new feature documentary, "BLUE RODEO | LOST TOGETHER", won the AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD for Best Feature Film at the WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL, beating out notable films like “Better Man”, “September 5” and “The Last Showgirl”. Then in February 2025, it opened in Cineplex Theatres across Canada and was the Number One Top Grossing Canadian Film at the Box Office for that weekend. The music doc about the iconic band’s 40-year career starts airing on the CBC in March 2025.
Dale is known for his versatile and emotional storytelling across various genres including documentaries, television, animation, commercials, music videos and concert films. Starting his career in Production Designinformed his directing skills, by elevating the look of his work while directing Music Videos and Commercials helped hone the skills needed to complete projects efficiently and creatively, a discipline that has followed him throughout his career. Dale is naturally collaborative, but what truly sets him apart is his unique ability to fuse innovative ideas with stunning visuals, complemented by a keen ear for music.
Dale is perhaps best known for his long-time collaboration with rock legends RUSH, where he served as creative director, live concert director, and documentary filmmaker. His Paul Rudd narrated documentary “RUSH | TIME STAND STILL” won the 2018 Canadian Screen Award, and the companion concert film “R40 LIVE” debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. His passion for sports is obvious as witnessed in his CSA nominated “NAMES ON THE CUP”, a documentary about the Stanley Cup, narrated by Kiefer Sutherland. He was part of the Production team on the emotionally charged hockey series “BöRJE | THE JOURNEY OF A LEGEND” and the Amazon docu-series “ALL OR NOTHING | TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS”.
Dale’s scripted work comes with a tagline - “Comedy with inventive style” - evident in his beautifully quirky short film “THE TRUTH ABOUT HEAD”, a multiple awards winner at the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL as well as comedy sketches for CBC’s “THE RON JAMES SHOW”.
Dale’s work is proof that he’s a focused storyteller with a childlike curiosity that adds a playful charm to his films. With a unique combination of creativity, technical expertise, and emotional depth, Dale's goal is to captivate audiences and elicit a strong response, leaving them laughing, crying, and everything in between.
