Carmen Pollard is an Emmy and CSA nominated Canadian filmmaker known for her nuanced and entertaining storytelling. Her films are intimate and sensorial, tackling complex and universal themes like ocularcentrism, access, resilience and end of life. Her debut feature FOR DEAR LIFE (Knowledge Network 2018) has screened across the globe receiving multiple nominations including Best Social Political Documentary at Yorkton, and was described by POV Magazine as “a sensitive, graceful work of art that's funny, gripping, and ultimately a tremendous gift for viewers”. With DANCEHALLS, DEEJAYS & DISTORTION (Knowledge Network 2021) she won a Golden Sheaf award for Best Series, as well as a nomination for Best of Festival. MILITANT MOTHER (Hot Docs/ acquired by Crave 2022) received four Leo nominations including Best Direction. Carmen’s currently in development writing and directing the elevated true-crime feature AT THE PENTHOUSE (Rogers/ Creative BC), and is in production on UP IN THE CLOUDS, DOWN IN THE VALLEY (CMF, KN, CCA). In addition to her role as a director, Carmen has worked collaboratively for major American Studios, Canadian broadcasters, and the National Film Board of Canada as a writer, editor, producer, and VFX artist. Select editing credits include NINTH FLOOR (TIFF Top Ten), BECAUSE WE ARE GIRLS, and DIRT (Leo Award for Best Editing). After premiering at major festivals such as TIFF, VIFF, Hot Docs, and FIN Atlantic, her work has screened theatrically, for broadcast, and on Netflix.
