Anouk Whissell

Anouk Whissell is a Montreal-based Writer-director, Traditional Animation Graduate, and Co-fonder of RKSS—a filmmaking triforce with François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell. Her critically acclaimed debut feature TURBO KID, co-written and co-directed with her partners at RKSS, premiered at Sundance in 2015, ran a successful festival tour, winning over 24 awards worldwide including the SXSW’s Audience Midnighters Award, BiFan’s Best Directors, Sitges’s Carnet Jove for Best Feature & Best Original Soundtrack, as well as a Saturn Award for Best International Film. In January 2018, she returned to Sundance for the World Premiere of their second movie, SUMMER OF ‘84. Praised by its audience and major media outlets such as Hollywood Reporter, The Village Voice and Variety, this new movie comes to confirm the filmmakers’ maturity and talent. Released in theater, Blu-ray and on all main digital platforms in August 2018, Summer of ’84 continues to this day, to gain fans worldwide. 2022 was a very busy year for Whissell, as she co-directed two feature films with her RKSS crew. The first one, on which she also co-signs the screenplay, is the adaptation of the popular comic book WE ARE ZOMBIES, originally written by Jerry Frissen, illustrated by Guy Davis and published by HUMANOIDS. While simultaneously finishing post-production of their third movie, she traveled to the Canary Islands to begin production on her next and fourth feature. The new project, entitled WAKE UP, is a co-production France-Spain, for which Studio Canal specifically picked her and RKSS to bring Alberto Marini’s script to life, with their unique signature. At the helm of their two latest projects, Whissell masterfully brought both movies to completion, ready to soon be released to audiences around the world. Driven by the need to tell stories, and carefully selecting the projects she is attached to based on passion, Whissell is ready to tackle her next challenge with her legendary enthusiasm, unique creativity and strong vision. To this day, and through her work, Whissell and RKSS have successfully touched the hearts of all generations far beyond the genre and cult fans, and she prides herself in helping pave the way, encouraging and inspiring women to follow their dreams in pursuing non-traditional careers within the cinema industry.
